Yesterday, Sunday June 29, a group of firefighters from Kootenai County Fire Rescue and Coeur D'Alene Fire Department in northern Idaho were working a wildfire when a sniper opened fire from a concealed position. Two firefighters, one each from both departments were struck by gunfire and killed. One additional firefighter was critically wounded and is currently fighting for his life after having undergone surgery for his injuries.
TSFR would like to stand with our brother and sister firefighters in Idaho and express our deepest condolences to the families of the fallen, both believed to be battalion chief officers. We would also like extend our fervent hopes for the recovery of our wounded brother and to his family as well. No names of the victims have been released officially as of this posting.
Finally, we also ask you to join us in remembering the members of our extended fire service family in the affected departments as they cope with this event. |
