Late in the evening of Saturday September 9, TSFR was alerted to a reported house on fire in the 2100 block of Reading Avenue, in the West Wyomissing section of Spring Township. TSFR Engine 85 and Wyo FD Ladder 79, plus our mutual aid partners from West Reading (Engine 64), Shillington (Engine 36), Mohnton (Engine 57), Western Berks (Ladder 18) , Muhlenberg Twp (Co. 66 RIT), WBEMS (Medics 6521 and M6511) responded. Command was assumed by Capt. 79, who was assigned to Ops 1 and immediately placed a request for PPL and UGI.

E85 arrived and reported a single-family residence with fire showing from the first floor. E85 obtained their own water supply from the hydrant at Cleveland and S Morwood and advanced a 2” attack line to begin fire control. L79 positioned at the front and the crew entered the structure to perform search and rescue operations. Meanwhile E36 reported to the hydrant to confirm water supply and L18 assisted with search and ventilation. All companies went to work with checking extension, venting and extinguishing operations. Significant fire extension was uncovered in a knee wall, over the porch roof and behind a closet. An additional 2” attack line was stretched from E85 to these areas to handle the additional fire. Extensive overhaul and venting were required to completely contain and control the fire.

TSFR FM43 Hatt was summoned and performed the investigation assisted by PA State Police Fire Marshal Herb.
