A single automatic sprinkler controlled a fire in a Penn State Berks dorm on Tuesday night October 5. TSFRS and Wyo FD along with our mutual aid partners were dispatched to the PSUB campus for a reported structure fire in a dorm. PSUB Police reported smoke issuing from a vent on the 2nd floor.

On arrival units found a single sprinkler head operating in a closet housing a water heater. The nozzle had controlled a fire that occurred in the closet and sounded an alarm along with nearby smoke detectors. The responding units ensured extinguishment and the sprinkler was shut down. After ventilating a remaining light smoke condition, the site was turned over to PSU Berks staff and the companies were returned. FM43 and Chief 85 investigated the fire which was determined to be accidental.
