Just before 8 AM on Monday morning, June 23, TSFRS Rescue 85 and Western Berks EMS Medic 6511 were dispatched to the 2900 block of Windmill Road in Spring Township for a vehicle accident with injuries. As units responded, County Communications provided additional details of a vehicle into a parked school bus inside a bus storage compound, which was updated shortly thereafter with a report that a vehicle was smoking. This prompted an upgrade of the response with the assignment of additional resources, that being Wyomissing Engine 79 and Western Berks FD Engine 18-2. Deputy 85 arrived and met with Spring Twp PD and Western Berks EMS Squad 650 and learned that there was one injury and that the fire might not be extinguished. As such DC85 directed R85 to enter the bus depot. Also, E18-2 was to deploy a hose line with E79 to stage at the entrance to the bus depot to provide a water supply if needed. R85s crew investigated the vehicle and the interior of the bus. They reported that the vehicle was slightly smoking but appeared to be no active fire or extension to the bus and that an ABC dry chemical had been deployed and there were automotive fluids down. With this report, crews assisted with hazard mitigation and debris clean up. and stood fast until the arrival of a tow company, after which no further FD services were required and units stood down. |
