An oven fire on Montello Rd in the Fritztown area of Spring Township late Friday afternoon August 29 resulted in the dispatch of a structure fire assignment consisting of TSFRS Engine 85, Western Berks FD Engine 18-1 and Ladder 18, Wyomissing Ladder 79, Shillington Engine 36, Mohnton Engine 57, Denver (LanCo) 13 for RIT, and Western Berks EMS Medic 6512. Cumru Twp FD Engine 42 was added on a special call. Additional information provided reported that there was a fire in the house, occupants were attempting to extinguish it and that one occupant was unable to be evacuated.

Commissioner 18 arrived and reported smoke showing. County Communications advised that PD reported a stove fire and that everyone was now evacuated. An update from FC18 clarified light smoke in the rear of the dwelling with one individual requiring EMS. Deputy 85 arrived and assumed command as crews went to work. E85 stretched a 200' attack line, while E18-1 provided a 5" supply line and crews from 79 and 18 checked for extension. No extension was found, and the area was wet down with a pressurized water extinguisher.

With this all units not on location were recalled. Members still on location controlled power to the appliance, completed ventilation of a smoke condition and took up all hose lines. When all tasks were completed, the remaining units were made available and returned. Twp Fire Marshal FM43 arrived and completed his investigation.

During the duration of this incident, TSFRS Tanker 85 also responded to a possible structure fire in Wyomissing Borough and a CO alarm in Spring Twp.
