On Wednesday afternoon July 28, Wyo FD Engine 79 and WRFD Rescue 64 were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with injuries unknown and a tractor trailer rollover on Rt 222 SB near the 422 EB merge in Wyomissing Boro. As Ladder 79 and Rescue 85 were already committed on another crash with entrapment in the Borough, West Reading Engine 64 was dispatched to fill in. Deputy 85 (Schartel) also responded.

DC85 arrived on location just after EMS and reported a tractor trailer on its side at the top of the merge ramp from 222 SB and 422 WB, blocking both lanes of 422 WB. EMS reported that they were with the driver who was out of the vehicle and being evaluated. The cargo was identified as canned mushrooms, but there was what appeared to be a diesel fuel spill running along the barrier. DC85 established 422 Command and was assigned Ops 2.

E64 and R64 were assigned to hazard control, damming the running spill, and defending a storm sewer inlet east of the truck. Additional oil dry was provided immediately under the tractor where the leak originated. The leak was then traced to a damaged hydraulic reservoir fill. Additional Fire Police from Stations 64, 55 and 69 were summoned as Station 85 Fire Police were in service at the other accident.
E64 was subsequently released and R64 held until the tow company arrived. After conferring with tow company personnel and PD regarding the leak and actions, R64 returned as well. DC85 terminated command and departed, with Fire Police remaining to help with road closure until released by PD.
