| Rescue 85 and Western Berks EMS were dispatched to the 300 block of Shakespeare Drive in the Cornwall Terrace section of the Township on Thursday morning November 20. Upon arrival, the crew discovered a two-vehicle crash in the intersection of Shakespeare Drive and Bard Ave. Members initally made contact with one patient to begin evaluation and transferred care to a Western Berks EMS medic unit upon their arrival. Given the patient status and positioning of the involved cars after the accident, it was determined that roof removal would be required to fully access and safely remove the patient.
R85 personnel set about obtaining all necessary equipment to stabilize the vehicle and then utilized multiple hydraulic cutters to displace the roof. The Rescue’s front bumper line was also deployed as a protection line. Upon roof removal, a side door and an additional support post were also removed to allow better access.
Under the direction of EMS, R 85 personnel assisted with patient removal onto a litter using a backboard and loaded into the ambulance. R 85 crew then assisted the tow company with cleanup of debris and fluids after which, they were placed available by Deputy 85. |
