TSFRS regularly visits our local libraries throughout the year to conduct book readings with the children in conjunction with the library staff. About 4 years ago we started conducting the February session at the station to provide the kids and their parents with a chance to get out of the house during the winter and visit us for a change.

The most recent offering, attended by about 155 families, was held this week on Monday February 16. The session included two book readings and crafts provided by the Library in our training room, both featuring Jess Cannot, the Youth Librarian. The families were then able to interact with our firefighters, tour the station and even sit in a fire truck. Since this is an Olympic year, a firefighter obstacle course was constructed to allow the kids to carry and pull a hose, pretend to drag a firefighter, chop wood with a plastic axe, ladder a pretend building and finally extinguish a faux fire.

In addition, attendees were able to use a digital fire extinguisher simulator and practice dialing 911 on our 911 simulator.
We were assisted by folks from the Township Parks and Recreation Department, including Judy Houck the Director and her helpers, Sharon Breneman, Kathy Sandt, and Janice Varone, who helped with handout material and tours.  We owe them and Jess from the Library our deepest thanks for making this a success.
