On Friday morning April 17, Rescue Engine 85 was dispatched to the 200 block of Carroll Ave in Reading, filling in on a structure fire first alarm assignment for the City of Reading FD. The initial report was a residential structure fire, with smoke reported coming from a building. While RE85 was still enroute, RFD Car 6 reported on location and confirmed a 2 1/2 story twin residence with smoke showing.

Upon arrival, RE85s members were assigned to access the roof via RFD Tower 1. Accordingly, the crew was split between the tower bucket and the Bravo exposure. Capt 85 assisted with opening numerous vertical ventilation holes, while the remainder of the crew worked opening knee walls and extinguishing fire extending into the exposure.

A 2nd alarm was transmitted, and as those companies arrived, they relieved all RE85 personnel who were then sent to rehab. After rehab, they were released by command and returned to the Township.
