TSFRS under Fire Prevention Lt. Gibbs promotes fire prevention to our community every October as part of National Fire Prevention Month. This year, with the pandemic easing, we participated in the most events since 2019. All in all, TSFR career and volunteer members put in approximately 206 manhours speaking to 2,476 people.

The Wilson School District resumed sending all 2nd grade students to our station to engage in fire prevention activities involving our Kids’ Safety Trailer and 911 simulator. Fire personnel instructed 473 students and teachers over 5 days on home fire prevention and how to contact and talk to 911.

In addition to the 2nd grade students, we also visited two (2) elementary schools to speak to the kindergarten and 1st grade students totaling an addition 698 students. As a result of those activities, we spoke directly to 1,171 students and staff. TSFR personnel visited 56 students and staff at Kidz Paradise plus 59 students and staff at the West Lawn United Methodist Church Preschool.

This year the department participated in two (2) truck/treat events, at Kindercare on Morgan Drive involving 50 children and at Spring Ridge Elementary School which was estimated at 1,000 people. Our monthly book reading to children at the Spring Township Library also resumed. Finally, the department hosted its first open house since 2019 which was attended by about 75 people
