| As the nation pauses to remember the events of 9-11-2001, TSFRS also pauses to reflect on the momentous impact of that day. Thousands of Americans were murdered by heinous acts of terror, perpetrated over New York, Arlington and Shanksville. The horror of the scenes will be indelibly etched in the minds of everyone who witnessed it in person or on television.
But in the midst of the calamity, we also saw incredible acts of bravery enacted by not only first responders but by individuals who reached out to their fellow human beings. From the fire, police, EMS and public safety personnel…to co-workers in the Towers and Pentagon…to neighbors in a small town in Pennsylvania…to a small group of airline passengers who fought back and won the first battle in the war on terror…inspiration can and must be drawn.
For out of the dust and flames and smoke there arose a spirit that was awesome to behold. This country was united in a way that we hadn’t seen or experienced in a generation. Patriotism and community spirit soared. There were lessons to be learned and passed on to others. And always remember those who died, those who suffered and continue to suffer, families left behind and losses that will never be completely repaired.
So….never forget…never, ever forget. And remind the new generation who didn’t experience it what it felt like to be knocked down and then to unite and help each other back up. That feeling must never go away. |
