On Saturday morning March 4, TSFR along with Wyo FD and Western Berks FD were dispatched for a possible gas leak as a result of a water leak in the 900 block of Snyder Rd in the Whitfield section of Spring Twp. While enroute units were advised that a sinkhole with a water main leak and odor of natural gas had been reported by a Western Berks EMS unit who discovered it while returning from a call.

Units arriving on location confirmed a water main leak in a sinkhole with a noticeable gas odor. The leak was impinging on a nearby home. The local water company, gas company and Spring Twp were alerted and responded. Rescue Engine 85 and Ladder 79 members checked surrounding homes for the presence of gas and other hazards while Engine 18-2 stood fast near a hydrant. No gas hazards were discovered but regular re-checks were made of the closest affected home thru the duration of the incident.

FD and Fire Police personnel secured traffic flow on Snyder Road until the utilities were in place to begin correcting the situation.
