March 19, 2023

On Sunday afternoon March 19, units from TSFR (Rescue Engine 85, Tanker 85) and Wyo FD (Ladder 79) were joined by our mutual aid partners from Shillington (Engine 36, Rescue Engine 36), Western Berks FD (Ladder 18, Utility 18-2), West Reading (Engine 64), Mohnton (Engine 57), Muhlenberg (RIT 66) and Western Berks EMS (Medic 6512) on a reported fire in an apartment in the 2300 block of Penn Ave in the West Lawn section of Spring Twp.

RE85 arrived first and reported fire showing from the C Side of the building, which was a 2nd floor apartment over a veterinary hospital. RE85s crew secured a hydrant in the front of the building and immediately stretched a 2” attack hose to begin fire attack. They were supported by L18 and L79 who also laddered the A side with their aerial. As additional crews arrived, the fire was knocked down, vented and overhauled.

TSFR Fire Marshal 43 arrived to investigate the cause and origin, supported by our local State Police Fire Marshal. One occupant was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Because of rapid control and containment, all animals were accounted for and initially left in their cages until removed by hospital staff.
