| On Monday night March 20, TSFR hosted several local fire companies in another “shared drill” intended to foster a closer working relationship with our mutual aid partners and enliven the weekly training experience that can become mundane. This exercise was held at the Spring Township municipal garage and focused on venting operations for large buildings. The Township garage is approximately 195000 cf on one side and 150,000 cf on the other joined by a single door between them, and overhead and personnel doors at either end, which is significantly larger than the dwellings that we generally encounter. In addition to TSFR, personnel and apparatus from Mohnton Co. 57, Shillington Co. 36, Wyomissing FD Co. 79, Cumru Twp Co.42, and West Reading Co. 64 participated. The evolution used several positive pressure fans in various configurations of inlets, vents, fan size and distribution to watch the air flow thru the structure. Air flow was tracked using crepe paper taped to the various doors from the building. Our sincerest thanks go out to Paul Darrah and the Spring Twp Public Works folks for sharing their home. |
