Hurricane Ida

Hurricane Ida stopped by to visit Berks County on her path from the Gulf Coast to Canada on Wednesday September 1. The resultant deluge caused water emergencies throughout Spring Twp and Wyomissing as well as neighboring jurisdictions that prompted dozens of responses in less than 6 hours.

While the impact on our area wasn’t as devastating as that on others both near and far as it developed over the next few days, it doesn’t take away from the hard work required to deal with our local issues. Basement flooding, high water rescues, downed trees and wires, fires and other emergencies were handled by our Fire and Fire Police in a professional and courageous fashion. TSFR and Wyo FD crews answered over 50 calls for assistance throughout the storm, and no one was idle for long. The West Side Emg. Mgt. Emergency Operations Center was activated and firefighters, Fire Police and Emergency Management personnel were kept busy from about noon to midnight on the day of the storm. Storm related emergencies continued to be addressed for days after.
