TSFR participated in a book reading event at the West Lawn Library on Tuesday September 10. Our members read books about fires and firefighters with the children and then gave them a tour of Rescue Engine 85.
Library book reading events are intended to engage the fire service with our community. They give us a platform for both making the Department more approachable and friendly, and also providing an additional venue to get our fire safety message out. We realize that in addition to the children, the adults are also listening, and sometimes they're a more receptive audience. This particular event was attended by 20 children and 18 adults.
Book readings have been held monthly at both Spring Township libraries for ten years. They alternate between the West Lawn and Spring Ridge locations. Since October will be Fire Prevention Month and we will be busy with other fire prevention activities, there will be no library event. However, they will resume in November back at West Lawn. |
