TSFRS was dispatched to a motel occupancy on Lancaster Pike in adjacent Cumru Township on Saturday night May 17 for a reported Automatic Fire Alarm. However, that was imminently upgraded to a structure fire assignment due to a further report of smoke on the 2nd floor.
Rescue Engine 85 responded and on arrival was met by hotel employees at the front door who reported both a fire alarm sounding and smoke on the 2nd floor. Upon entering the second floor, the crew found a moderate smoke condition in the hall between rooms 220-240.
Captain 85 advised command of his findings, and requested a dry line brought to the 2nd floor plus additional personnel to assist with checking rooms. Ultimately companies checked all rooms twice on the 2nd floor with no signs of smoke or fire in any rooms. The smoke in the hallway eventually dissipated and did not return. Command had units check the roof with no roof top units found. Maintenance arrived and checked the breaker room with no cause found. As such, Command turned over the occupancy to maintenance.
While checking the roof, a Ladder 57 crewman sustained an injury and was unable to get down on Ladder 79. As such RE42, RE85, and L79 set up a lowering system using L79’s aerial and lowered the firefighter to the ground for hand off to EMS. Afterwards, RE85 demobilized and hot washed the incident prior to returning to station. |
