On Monday June 16, Station 85 hosted visitors from the West Lawn Library & Spring Township Library. We had over 150 attendees who listened to a book, took a station tour and finally got to see the apparatus in the engine room.
Most importantly, the kids were able to use our 9-1-1 simulator to get a better understanding of how to contact first responders for an emergency and what questions to expect from the call takers. They also practiced extinguishing a fire with our practice house and sit in our fire trucks.
Seemed like play to them but we've seen that as they get older, these lessons stick. Several former kids have told us that they reacted in an emergency as they were taught in these sessions, so it's time well spent for all. |
