Just after midnight on Sunday morning June 15, TSFRS Station 85 along with Wyomissing Engine 79, Western Berks EMS Medic 6511 and Intermediate 6522, and Reading FD Medic 6031 responded to the area of Rte 222 and Spring Ridge Drive for a possible vehicle crash with injuries and a rollover. While enroute, R85 received an additional report of one vehicle flipped over on the grass and on fire. E79 and R85 arrived, and Captain 85 confirmed the reported of a single vehicle fully involved in fire with multiple people in the roadway on both sides of the highway.
E79 stretched their front bumper line and promptly had water on the fire. Command requested 222 be shut down in both directions due to multiple patients on both sides of the roadway. Accordingly, Stations 64 and 66 Fire Police were requested to assist Station 85 Fire Police with traffic control. Fire personnel assisted with patient care of the one patient believed to have been ejected.
EMS transported several patients to area hospitals. R85 and E79 remained on location and assisted with lighting and debris control. E79 was then released and R85 relocated to southbound lane while the northbound was reopened. R85 remained on location provided lighting and documented the vehicle fire. Fire Police remained on location until released by PD.
Engine 79 was subsequently released, and Rescue 85 was repositioned to the southbound lane while the northbound lane was reopened. |
