Rescuing cats from trees is about as cliché’ as fire department operations can get in the eyes of the public. However, a new spin on an old story was handled by TSFRS, on Wednesday morning June 18, as Rescue Engine 85 was dispatched to the 2700 block of Shillington Road in Spring Township for a reported cat trapped underneath a wheel well of a car in a parking lot. RE85s crew arrived to find a kitten trapped underneath the car hanging from the undercarriage. The cat was found to be pinched between the gas tank and the control arm of a car that had been in the parking lot for days.
RE85 initially attempted to gently pull the feline out but with no success. Crews then used lubrication and an airbag to gain enough room to safely remove the animal, looking forlorn but free, and with no noticeable damage to the car. The kitten was turned over to the employees of the business who stated they would contact an animal sanctuary to find it a more hospitable domicile.
