| Wednesday October 28 saw Rescue 85 and TSFRS members paying a visit to the St. Albans Christian Learning Center class. 18 students and 5 adults were treated to a tour of Rescue 85 and a visit with a fully decked out firefighter.
As is our standard approach with our very young friends, we try to emphasize that firefighters aren't scary. We want them to know that they should not hide from them but rather look for them in the event of a fire. We start with a uniformed firefighter who dons his ensemble one piece at a time, starting with boots and trousers and ending with breathing apparatus. Kids get to hear the sound a firefighter breathing air from an air pack to emphasize that its a good sound with nothing to be frightened of.
High fives between the kids and the firefighter always helps as a grand finale...and of course, everyone gets their very own red fire helmet to take home as a reminder! |
